Q1) Is it permissible to get a bank loan, although I have searched everywhere including members of my umma for financial assistance and although they charge interest?

A1) With the condition of paying interest, it is not permissible.

A2) It is permissible.

 

Q3) Is working in a bank right for a person even that Islam says that interest is illegal?

A3) It is OK if there is no usury transaction.

 

Q4) If we deposit some amount in the bank and they offer some profit to us can we get it or not. I want to ask if it is halal or haram?

A4) You can take the interest and own half of it and give the other half to a poor Muslim.

A5) That is halal. (Since, you are living in the West, it is halal to take the interest in the both cases).

A6) That is halal.

 

Q7) I want to ask about mortgage for buying a house\ flat in UK, could we take mortgage for buying a house? Please, explain this issue?

A7) Taking mortgage with interest is not permissible but you can take the money of the unbelievers with the intention of securing the money (from their hands). Then, if you did not spend the money throughout a year, khums (1/5) would become obligatory and it would no longer be dealt with as loan.

 

Q8) Is it permissible to take interest from unbelievers, especially for those who live in their countries?

A8) Yes, apparently one is allowed to take interest from the unbelievers whose property is not honored.

 

Q9) If I know that the bank will give me interest even without stipulating the conditions, is it permissible for me to deposit in a savings account that takes the form of a term-deposit?

A9) Yes, it is permissible, as long as you do not stipulate the conditions of interest.

 

Q10) Is it permissible to receive interest from a non-Muslim bank? What about taking loan with interest, is it permissible?

A10) It is absolutely permissible to take interest from a non-Muslim bank. Even making a condition for obtaining interest is permissible. Taking a loan with an interest is not permissible unless one takes it with the intention of securing the money after which he considers it as loan given to him on behalf of Hakim Shar’a (Mujtahed).

 

Q11) Is it permissible to deposit or borrow money from Muslim banks whereby the interest is either received or paid out? Is the law of interest in borrowing/depositing similar with Muslim /non-Muslim banks?

A11) It is permissible to deposit money in a bank without prior condition for interest and it is as well permissible to take interest, if the bank in which money is deposited belongs to Muslims. If it belongs to government, it is permissible to take interest provided that half of the interest is given away to poor people (momeneen of them).

It is not permissible to take a loan from a national bank (bank owned by muslims) with interest. But if the bank is owned by government it is permissible to take loan with interest provided that taking loan should be with the intention of securing a property whose owner is unknown. Having taken the loan he considers it as a loan given to him on behalf of a Hakim Shar'i (Islamic judge). Grand Ayatollah Seestani has permitted this.

 

Q12) Is it permitted to pay interest to non-Muslims and also take interest from them?

A12) Giving interest to a non-Muslim in a deal that is based on interest is impermissible and receiving it (interest) is permissible and there is no objection in it.

 

Q13) A female Muslim is the only survival heir amongst her two brothers and two sisters. Does she inherit the whole property or is it to be distributed also amongst her dead brothers and sisters’ children?

A13) All is given to her.

A14) The daughter inherits all that's left.

 

Q15) I am really confused and having a hard time explaining the difference between betting in horse racing & archery and lottery. Why is the first permissible and the second impermissible?

A15) Lottery is a sort of gambling and there is nothing one may do to deserve the property. But horse-racing and archery are for a purpose which is called "Self-defense". However, this is the order (hukm) of Allah and we are but to follow it without asking for reason.

 

Q16) I work at an exchange office but they also make me sell lottery. Is it permitted to sell lottery in this case?

A16) Selling lottery cards is not permissible. Yes, it is permissible to take the property with the intention to contribute in a charitable project such as building a mosque or a bridge not with the intention of earning profit or a prize.

 

Q17) Is earning from professional sports halal?

A17) That is halal.

 

Q18) Living in Canada is very difficult to avoid mortgage. What is Islamic law about mortgaging a house in Canada?

A18) You can receive the money not with the intention of borrowing it rather with the intention of securing the money (from their hands). (Here, it means that the intention you have is very important).

 

Q19) 1. In relation to muzaribe:

A. does someone have to pay khums on the amount of money he or she has given to someone else for muzaribe?

B. if some of that money given for muzaribe was loaned to the person, does he or she still have to pay khums on it?

2. in relation to muzaribe, does he or she have to pay khums on that loan?

3. is it true that it is ehtiyate-wajib to give khums to one’s own marja instead of to another mujtahid?

A19) A: That is obligatory.

B: Given the assumption in the question, whenever he takes back the money he should pay its Khums.

2 - Khums is not payable on it.

3 - As a measure of obligatory precaution, Khums should be given to the “Most Knowledgeable” or be used with his permission.

A20) Different situations require different rulings. You may consult someone (a religious clergyman in your own neighborhood) to tell you which one is most necessary to be done.

 

Q21) Some people use to steal electricity (Power Supply) by making some modifications in the meter. By doing this they pay a smaller amount. Is it permissible?

A21) That is not permissible.

A23) No prohibition order has been issued by His Eminence.

A24) It is permissible in itself, but if the profit goes to Israel, it is not allowed to purchase it.

 

Q25) Can a Muslim buy or sell wine or pork or haram meat to non-Muslims? What is the fatwa on the income one gets by doing such a job?

A25) No. It is not permissible to sell these things and the income received is not halal.

 

Q26) My question is related to selling and consumption of ice-cream containing less than 0.5% ethanol type of alcohol. I purchased an ice-cream business and now I am finding out that some of the ice-cream syrup contains less than 0.5% ethanol type of alcohol. That syrup is then used to make ice-cream. My question to you is: Can I (a Muslim) sell or eat this ice-cream made from syrup that contains less than 0.5% of ethanol type of alcohol?

A26) If it is not intoxicating, there is no objection in it; you can buy and eat it.

 

Q27) I am running a store and I have non-Muslim customers who want me to sell them alcoholic drinks. Can a Muslim buy and sell intoxicating alcohol to non-Muslims?

A27) It is not permissible to buy and sell alcohol.

 

Q28) What is your opinion on business and dealings with individuals or even companies, which are hostile to Islam and the Muslim nation? Can we buy their products if we know that they are supporting either directly or indirectly the oppression of Muslims?

A28) It is not permissible in the said supposition.
