Following on from the success of the girls-only school which the Foundation operated in the previous academic year, Alulbayt Islamic School was set up to cater for Islamically educating both boys and girls. Ages of children are 5-16 and there are tiered classes for the Arabic lessons so students are grouped by ability rather than age. Currently we have more than 150 students enrolled, studying Aqaed (Fundamentals), Akhlaq (Ethics), Arabic, Fiqh (Jurisprudence), Qur'an and Tareekh (History).
The school runs on Saturdays throughout the year, with holidays for Islamic occasions and term breaks. Students are assessed throughout the year with coursework, and there is a formal examination at the end of the year. There is also extensive co-operation between parents and the school to ensure that parents are kept in-touch with their child's education.
Lessons for the upper years are based around core learning from coursebooks with problem-solving exercises. Teachers encourage students to ask questions and participate in discussions in a friendly atmosphere. Each subject also has an appointed head of teaching to ensure that any problems with the content or teaching are dealt with directly.
An essential part of the curriculum is prayer and students are firmly taught its importance and application. Prayer time includes a small talk on an upcoming Islamic occasion and guests are regularly invited to speak to the students and lead the prayers. Also, there is a PE lesson for the upper years and break times are accompanied with the opening of the sweet shop.
