Islamic
Data Bank
At the outset of the third millennium, the rapid spread
of knowledge and information has underlined the need for powerful
and consistent information technology systems. Hundreds of books,
articles, dissertations, software and other sources of information
are produced daily, each of which has something new to say.
Researchers have an ever increasing need for these indispensable
sources of information. Databanks are one the most effective means
of providing access to such information. The rise in Islamic studies
has highlighted the scarcity of available tools for gaining access
to the relevant sources. In order to address that need, PARSA
Islamic Databank was established by the office of His Eminence,
Grand Ayatollah Sistani in the March of 2000. As an electronic
publisher, PARSA aims at making available all the works published
in the various fields of Islamic studies, along with their abstracts.
They include all of the books, articles, software and other works
published in different languages throughout the world. PARSA's
main area of activity is on the Internet. Its products are currently
offered in three languages, i.e. English, Arabic, Persian. They
are available in the form of CD-ROMs and books. By visiting this
website (www.IslamicDataBank.com), researchers can choose their
topics of interest and, after viewing the relevant abstracts,
place their orders, which can then be received in print, on CD-ROMs,
or through email.
